Who are Members?

Any party, with some limited exceptions, wishing to trade electricity in England and Wales must do so through the pooling mechanism. Participation in the Electricity Pool can only be achieved through membership of the Pool and by satisfying the terms of the Pooling and Settlement Agreement (P&SA).

Pool Members are entitled to trade electricity through the Pool either as generators, suppliers or generators and suppliers.

In addition to Pool Members there are also Parties to the Pool. These Parties include potential Pool Members and Service Providers. Parties are also signatories to the P&SA but they are not entitled to trade electricity through the Pool.

There is also a category of Party membership called Meter Operator Parties. They accede to only one part of the P&SA and do not have any voting rights.
